The week will be filled with runway shows, fashion presentations, events and parties not to be missed. A variety of satellite events will also take place at various locations throughout Miami.
Miami Fashion Week has become Miami’s premier fashion soiree attracting tens of thousands of international media, jetsetters, fashion royalty and celebrities alike. The week showcases the latest cruise, resort and pre-Spring collections by both established and emerging designers. There’s a wide range of fashion on display including women’s wear, men’s wear, swimwear, jewelry and accessories.
With Miami’s reputation as an international melting pot with strong ties to Latin America, many designers come from Central and South American countries like Venezuela, Brazil, Colombia and Mexico. You can expect to see brands like Andrés Sarda, Rene Ruiz, Angel Sanchez, Ana María Guiulfo, Yirko Sivirich, Agatha Ruiz de la Prada, Alvarno and more sashaying down the runways.
A Miami Fashion Week Benefit Gala will be hosted by Spanish actor Antonio Banderas, who was named Honorary President of Miami Fashion Week in 2016. The evening will include live music, silent and live auctions to benefit Nicklaus Children’s Hospital Foundation and Lagrimas y Favores. Tickets to individual runway shows are available, as well as MIAFW: The Experiencepackages for a truly VIP experience. The festivities also include the Miami Fashion Week Summit where top industry experts lead sessions on a variety of topics, including fashion sustainability.
In the lead up to Miami Fashion Week, you can also visit their website to watch their First Faces digital TV show, a competition reality show similar to America’s Next Top Model where models compete to open a runway show.
Who better to spark Miami’s catwalk prowess than the late legendary fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld? He held Chanel’s 2008 Resort Show in South Beach at The Raleigh Hotel—and the rest, as they say, is history. With that move, Lagerfeld singlehandedly elevated Miami’s fashion scene and paved the way for other luxury fashion houses to showcase their collections in Miami.
In 2015, the longtime production group Fashion Week of the Americas was acquired by another fashion company and became Miami Fashion Week. The annual fashion event previously focused on emerging designers from Latin America. They decided to widen their scope to the international fashion scene in Miami.
In 2016, Miami Fashion Week debuted as the world’s first international fashion show focused on resort wear. During this Miami Fashion Week, Banderas debuted his first fashion collection, a collaboration with Danish brand Selected Homme, at a lavish event at Vizcaya Museum and Gardens.
As the first international platform for resort wear, Miami Fashion Week has proven to be a great opportunity for designers across the Americas and the world to create and distribute original fashion pieces. There is no doubt that this year’s festivities at Ice Palace Studios will be full of surprises, trendsetting silhouettes and fabulous fêtes.
